What`s 1% worth?
A lot if you follow the math here (english) and here (german).
In sum, let me quote:
1 user creates new content: A blog post or a Wiki page, for example.
10x that, or 10 users, interact with the content: They leave a comment, for example, or edit the Wiki page.
100x that, or 100 users, read the content.
So only some produce but a lot consume in the social web.
Thus, I think it is important for one to (1) target the “influencer” so that they spread the right message, but also be aware of (2) the “couch potatoes” who will most likely read about your message.
There is a tricky thing about this equation. If the people who comment on the original message (the middleman), you better be tracking the follow-ups just to make sure that the message is not altered in a way you don`t want it to be. In German we say “stille Post” when a message is passed from one to another and at the end a total different one comes up.
cheers
