Definition: SMO / SMM

You can compare the Social Media measures and means with the Search Engine ones.

SEO and SEM is well known in the world of digital marketeers.

However Social Media is not, so let me clarify what I think the following terms mean:

Social Media Optimization (SMO) – Everything you do on or “inside” the clients website. That encompasses services like social bookmarking, voting, rating, comments, wish lists, related products, customization. But also having a forum or a corporate blog on the website.

Social Media Marketing (SMM) – Everything you do outside of the clients website. That encompasses participating in online communities, articles on wikipedia, etc.
